We Were Friends

We were friends before the needle
And we were friends
As we drifted like clouds of cotton
Through the spheres of light

And we were friends as our hair grew long
And our shoes fell by the wayside
And we were friends when the storm came along
And we waited for the sun to shine

And we were friends when the whispers of doubt
Prevented us from each others touch
And we were friends as our children grew
To carry on the seeds of Love

And when our bodies died in time
We were friends on the other side
